Studio Information

Inner Peace Yoga is a new yoga studio located in SE Charlotte, NC at Inner Peaks Climbing Center. Inner Peace was started by dedicated rock climbers who also own Inner Peaks. When we began practicing yoga, we noticed our climbing improved. As we continued to practice, we saw benefits in ALL areas of our lives; lower stress, better sleep and an all around improved attitude. Plus it was really, really fun! So when we decided to expand our climbing walls, we wanted to include a yoga studio as well and share more of what we love with the Charlotte community.

In addition to our yoga studio and climbing walls, Inner Peace Yoga has shower facilities and a fitness room that includes cardio equipment, weights and other basic fitness tools. Anytime you take a yoga class, you can work out for no extra charge. Climbing is 1/2 price if you want to pull down and get bendy on the same day.

At Inner Peace Yoga, we think that one of the most important aspect of a quality studio is the instructors. We are excited to bring you some of the best Charlotte has to offer.

Yoga is a journey. We strive to make ours playful and full of joy. Please stop by and follow the path with us for a bit. Breathe more. Smile more. Namasté.

Maria Buchsbaum

Maria-head-shot

Maria began practicing yoga 15 years ago as a way to gently get back into shape after injuries and time away from physical activity. In yoga, she found a way to manage stress and deal with chronic back problems. Approximately 5 years ago, Maria began to deepen her practice, through increased dedication to asana practice and  attention to the philosophical, psychological and ethical aspects of yoga.

In 2009, Maria completed her 200 hour training with Kristin Cooper Gulak of the Wilmington Yoga Center and is currently working toward her 500 hr certification. In keeping with the service philosophy of Kristen’s training, Maria has taught yoga to victims of domestic violence, provided workshops to foster parents and their foster children, provided yoga as part of corporate wellness programs and to school teachers.

She teaches basic classes, vinyasa flow classes, yin and long, slow deep classes. In addition to her training with Kristen Cooper Gulak, she values the teaching she has gained from Johnna Smith, Stephanie Keach, Kathryn Budig and many others.

Page Lee

I came to yoga as a way to workout and unwind, but ended up staying for the rich spiritual and emotional benefits that it brings to my life. Before I began taking yoga classes in 2002, I was a serious rock climber with a history of injury and body stress that is familiar to anyone who has over trained. After a few yoga classes I could see how much better my body felt and how much better it performed at my chosen sport. I continued to practice, trying a variety of teachers and disciplines and getting more in tune with the spiritual and emotion aspects of a serious yoga practice. In 2010, I could no longer resist yoga teacher training and got my 200-hour RYT certification.

In my teaching, I strive to combine athleticism with spirituality and to experiment with movement and sequencing in a way that is engaging and accessible to yoga practitioners of all levels. Off of my mat I am a rock climber, grass roots political activist, climbing gym owner, parent and play competitive roller derby as a member of Charlotte Speed Demons.

Debi Hawkins-McLendon

debi yoga(E-RYT): Debi was first introduced to yoga by her mother while she was still in college.  She dabbled with it for years, only becoming a serious student in 1997 after learning she had arthritis in her hips.  Yoga has helped her avoid that hip replacement for more than a decade, so she decided to share her love for the practice by becoming a teacher.

Debi earned her teacher certification from the Asheville Yoga Center in 2003 and is a Yoga Alliance Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher.  Awarded the Anusara-Inspired (TM) Yoga Teacher designation in 2006, she is currently working toward full Anusara certification with John Friend.  Debi is inspired by the teachings of Desiree Rumbaugh, Sarah Faircloth, Linda Oelschlaeger, Douglas Brooks, Bill Mahony, and Paul Muller-Ortega.  Her Anusara-Inspired classes are playful and devotional as she encourages her students to celebrate life and express their uniqueness on and off the mat.
